CyberPlant launches its crowdfunding campaign to turn living plants into AI-powered personal assistants

CyberPlant (Colombia, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana), one of the 20 ideas selected to receive guidance from Santander X Explorer, has launched its crowdfunding campaign.

What does this project, linked to the 2030 SDGs, involve? Gaia Mini is a device that turns a living plant into a smart personal assistant, accessible directly via WhatsApp or Telegram. Using sensors that measure the plant’s light, humidity and temperature in real time, and supported by cloud-based artificial intelligence, the system creates a unique entity: sensitive, adaptive and functional. It is neither an app nor a robot: it is a living being connected to technology, designed to support the user’s emotional wellbeing, productivity and healthy habits.

The project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by addressing health and well-being (SDG 3) through emotional support, quality education (SDG 4) via tools for habits and personal growth, and responsible technological innovation (SDG 9), merging nature and artificial intelligence to reduce digital overload and reconnect people with meaningful human connections.

“We wanted to build something that had never existed before: a plant with artificial intelligence that genuinely and vividly supports people’s personal growth. Gaia isn’t an app, nor is it a robot; it’s a new form of relationship between humans and technology. We believe that small daily improvements, when applied effectively, can have a significant impact on humanity,” explains Cyberplant founder Daniel Álvarez.
