Reframing pregnancy loss: CUIDARE launches crowdfunding campaign

Cuidare, one of the 20 initiatives selected to launch its crowdfunding campaign with the guidance of Santander X Explorer, was founded in Brazil from an idea developed in the classroom. The project originated from a university project carried out by seven psychology students at Mackenzie Presbyterian University, who set out to study a topic that is still rarely discussed: pregnancy loss.
Throughout their research, the group not only sparked academic interest in the subject but also identified an urgent need for support for women facing pregnancy loss. Many of them seek support and information, but end up struggling to find reliable content and truly welcoming spaces amidst the overload of information available online and the lack of resources addressing on pregnancy loss.
Driven by this purpose, three members of the group — Malu, Moni and Na — decided to take the initiative forward, transforming the academic idea into the Cuidare project. The platform was conceived as a digital space for support and emotional care, providing therapeutic resources, psychological support, a community for sharing experiences, educational content, an emotional diary and other tools focused on the emotional care of women experiencing grief following a pregnancy loss.
The significance of this issue is reflected in the statistics: it is estimated that around 23 million pregnancies worldwide end in miscarriage every year. Despite the high incidence, studies and reports indicate that there is still a lack of guidance, dialogue and adequate support for those going through this experience. In this context, Cuidare’s mission is to help transform this reality by offering a welcoming environment, expert information and emotional support to thousands of Brazilian women who often face this pain alone.
Furthermore, Cuidare is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN’s 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities). The initiative promotes mental health and well-being, broadens access to specialist knowledge, helps break down stigmas surrounding pregnancy loss, empowers women and democratises access to support and information. “We have seen how much these women’s suffering is overlooked, not only within society but across the world as a whole. Cuidare aims not only to support these women, but also to reframe the issue, bringing greater visibility and attention to a topic that is rarely discussed yet has a profound impact on the lives of these women and their support networks,” explains Maria Luiza, a member of the team. Through our crowdfunding campaign, we aim to raise the profile of the project and bring together collaborators, partners and supporters who share this purpose and wish to contribute to building a more accessible and humane care network.
