OreonMin (Peru, Pontifical Catholic University of Peru), one of the initiatives selected by Santander X Explorer, has officially launched its crowdfunding campaign to support the development of technology for underground mining.
OreonMin was founded with a clear objective: to help build safer, smarter and more connected mining through the integration of robotics, sensors and software. The project is developing a Safety & Geotechnical Intelligence Platform, a system that combines an UGV (unmanned ground vehicle), sensors such as LiDAR and cameras, real-time data processing and a SaaS platform capable of generating alerts and visualising critical information for mining operations.
The idea arose from observing how many inspections in underground mining still rely on manual processes and direct exposure to high-risk environments. In response, OreonMin aims to bring autonomous technologies and smart monitoring to the Latin American mining industry. “We want to demonstrate that Latin America can also develop technology for real-world industrial applications. OreonMin seeks not only to create a technological system, but also to promote a new vision of how innovation can improve safety in mining,” explains David Palma, founder of the project and a Mechatronics Engineering student.

The team is currently developing its MVP and is seeking partners, members of the technical community and strategic allies who wish to be part of this initial phase. The campaign is now live and offers an opportunity to bring together innovation, industry and the tech community around a shared goal: transforming the future of mining.
