An inclusive restaurant for children with ASD: discover the Essência project

Essência (Brazil, Presbiterian Mackenzie University), one of the 20 ideas selected to receive support from Santander X Explorer, has launched its crowdfunding campaign.

What is this project, aligned with the 2030 SDGs, about? It is an inclusive restaurant aimed at children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, designed to promote the wellbeing and comfort of both the children and their families.

“Children with ASD often feel uncomfortable in most restaurants due to noise, bright lights, and other sensory stimuli. This also affects their parents, who suffer when they see their children in distress. Our proposal can help minimise these factors,” explain the project’s leaders.

The goal of the project’s crowdfunding campaign is to create an adapted environment, using soundproofing, dimmed lighting, and other modifications that help reduce the discomfort experienced by children with ASD in restaurants.
