In 2024, the area burned by wildfires in Portugal was approximately 96.8% higher than the average of the previous six years. As a result, more than 690,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide were released into the atmosphere, numerous properties were lost, and many people were left homeless. Portugal is burning more and more each year.

FireHawk AI, a project from ISLA (Polytechnic Institute of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal), is one of those selected by a global jury to receive support from Santander X Explorer in order to launch a crowdfunding campaign… which has just gone live.

The platform, designed as a dashboard, aims to innovate in wildfire monitoring and prevention by integrating decision-support metrics, eco-friendly sensors, artificial intelligence, and real-time monitoring.
